Zhuhai New Year's custom of crane dance

On May 18, 2010, the Ministry of Culture of China announced the list of recommended items for the third national intangible cultural heritage list (newly selected items). The "Crane Dance (Sanzao Crane Dance)" declared by Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, was selected as an intangible cultural heritage in the category of traditional dance programs.

The Zhuhai Crane Dance, which is usually performed at large-scale festivals or Lantern Festival, is located in Sanzao, Jinwan District, Zhuhai City, and originated in the Song Dynasty, with a history of more than 700 years. The Crane Dance is performed with percussion music, and the atmosphere is cheerful and enthusiastic.

It is a folk dance created by the people of Sanzao in their long-term production and living practices, imitating the movements of the crane and studying the habits of the crane, and in the process of long-term historical development, the Crane Song and Crane Dance has been preserved according to its original appearance and flavor.

During the Expo period, the Sanzao Crane Dance will interpret the process of cranes coming to the door, foraging for food, washing their beaks, combing their hair, playing, etc., with realistic modeling and vivid dance.
