Are capsule gastroscopy results accurate?

Capsule gastroscopy is generally not very accurate, especially compared to regular gastroscopy.

Capsule gastroscopy is a type of capsule endoscopy, in which the patient swallows a capsule-sized camera, which transmits images of the stomach as it enters the stomach. Capsule gastroscopy has the advantages of easy operation and less discomfort, but it also has some disadvantages, such as insufficiently accurate examination, high rate of leakage, and limited maneuverability.

After being ingested, the capsule gastroscope moves passively in the stomach, such as in the esophagus, and enters the stomach within a few seconds of being swallowed, so observation of the esophagus is limited. It may also produce a large number of blind spots in the stomach, and generally only 20% to 30% of the stomach can be observed. Therefore, the leakage rate during the examination is high and cannot meet the diagnostic requirements of many diseases. And its imaging is not clear enough, due to the limitation of pixels, capsule gastroscopy imaging is far inferior to ordinary gastroscopy.

Its operability is also limited, can not clean the stains on the lesion, ordinary gastroscopy can be flushed, suction to remove the stains on the lesion, in order to facilitate the observation, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, but the capsule gastroscopy does not have the ability to do so; and pathological biopsy, ordinary gastroscopy can be biopsy forceps to grasp the tissue for pathology, but the capsule gastroscopy can not be done.

So if the patient's body can tolerate ordinary gastroscopy, it is recommended to choose ordinary gastroscopy.
