The difference between historical supply chain and traditional supply chain

(1) The types of logistics transportation are different. In the traditional form of supply chain, logistics is a traditional form of large-scale operation or large-scale spatial movement of customers based on different geographical locations. The tracking of goods is completely carried out through containers, pallets or other packaging units, and the visibility between all links in the supply chain is limited. Under the mode of e-commerce supply chain management, with the help of various information technologies and the Internet, customers can track the whereabouts of goods along the supply chain at any given time.

(2) Different customer types. Under the traditional supply chain management mode, the object of enterprise service is fixed, and supply chain service providers can clearly grasp the types of customers and the services and products they need. With the emergence of e-commerce, fast, high-speed and detailed logistics and business process methods are needed. Customers are unknown entities. They order products according to their own wishes, seasonal demand, price and convenience.

(3) The operation modes of supply chain are different. Traditional supply chain is a typical push operation. In order to overcome the obstacles in space and time of goods transfer, manufacturers use logistics to deliver goods to the market or customers. Both business flow and logistics are driven. In e-commerce supply chain, commodity production, distribution, warehousing, distribution and other activities are carried out according to customer orders. Business flow, logistics and capital flow all revolve around the market, and logistics provides a strong guarantee for business flow, so it drives the e-commerce supply chain.

(4) Inventory and order processes are different. Under the traditional supply chain operation mode, the flow of inventory and orders is one-way, and there is no process of interaction and communication between buyers and sellers. Under the condition of e-commerce supply chain, customers can customize orders and inventory, and the process is two-way interaction. As customers, they can customize, monitor and even modify their own inventory and orders, while as manufacturers and distributors, they can adjust their inventory and orders at any time according to the needs of customers, thus maximizing the performance of supply chain operation.

(5) The destination of logistics is different. In the traditional supply chain, due to the inability to grasp the information in the process of commodity flow in time, especially the information of scattered customers, and the lack of personalized service ability, logistics can only achieve centralized batch transportation and undifferentiated service, and the transportation destination is centralized. The e-commerce supply chain organizes the flow of goods completely according to the requirements of personalized customers. This kind of logistics not only needs to minimize the transportation cost by collecting goods, but also needs to achieve high service through differentiated distribution, and its destinations are scattered.

(6) The requirements of supply chain management are inconsistent. Traditional supply chain management emphasizes the stability and consistency of logistics process, otherwise logistics activities will be chaotic, and any fluctuation and variation in logistics operation may cause huge losses to upstream and downstream enterprises. E-commerce supply chain management is different, because its logistics demand itself is differentiated, and logistics is a value-added activity based on highly information management. Therefore, logistics is bound to have strong seasonality and discontinuity, which requires enterprises to follow the principles of timely response, high service quality and optimal overall cost when managing logistics activities.

(7) The responsibilities of supply chain management are different. In the traditional supply chain operation environment, enterprises are only responsible for their own links, for example, transportation enterprises only care about effective transportation and corresponding costs. There is often no clear responsible person between the operation links of the supply chain, and the operation activities of the supply chain are scattered, resulting in local optimization and poor overall performance. The e-commerce supply chain emphasizes that supply chain management is a kind of process management, which requires enterprises to implement commodity logistics process and corresponding cost management from the perspective of the whole supply chain.

(8) Logistics information management systems are different. In traditional supply chain management, logistics information is generally collected, transmitted and summarized manually, and the information is one-way, while the supply and demand information is asymmetric. Logistics information management system is generally a stand-alone system, or at most a local area network system limited to the internal network. The collection of logistics information in supply chain management under e-commerce environment can be carried out online by the supply and demand sides through the Internet network, and the information is bidirectional and symmetrical. Information management system is an internet-based network system that is open to both supply and demand, and the information is highly real-time, accurate and effective.

(9) Different fund settlement methods. In traditional supply chain management, most funds are settled by cash, check or transfer; However, in the supply chain management under the e-commerce environment, online electronic payment is the main settlement method, because all transactions are conducted online.
