The concept of "national education" arose in the 1920s, when the wind of "Western learning" and improvement was hot, and Zhang Zhidong, Wei Yuan and others proposed "middle school" (the study of China) in order to contrast with Western learning. In order to contrast with Western learning, Zhang Zhidong, Wei Yuan and others proposed the concept of "secondary school" (Chinese learning) and advocated "secondary school as a body, Western learning as a use", learning Western civilization on the one hand, and restoring the two Han scriptures at the same time.
