What are the reasons why deep vein thrombosis and compartment syndrome are prone to occur in traditional lithotomy position?

There are five reasons: poor return flow, increased pressure, blood stasis, increased pressure in the fascial compartment, and lack of exercise.

1. Poor venous blood return: If you remain sitting or lying down for a long time, venous blood return is restricted, which can easily lead to deep vein blood stasis and increase the risk of thrombosis.

2. Increased venous pressure: After maintaining the same posture for a period of time, the venous pressure in the back will increase, thereby slowing down the flow of blood inside the veins.

3. Blood stasis: Being in a fixed position for a long time will lead to slow local blood flow, and blood stasis increases the risk of thrombosis.

4. Increased compartment pressure: Compartment syndrome is caused by congestion or swelling of muscle tissue close to bones in a restricted space.

Remaining in a fixed position can increase pressure in certain areas, which can lead to compartment syndrome.

5. Lack of exercise: Staying still for a long time can easily lead to sluggish blood circulation. Lack of muscle activity and exercise is also an important factor in the occurrence of these complications.
