How to make paper-cut prints?

Clip prints, also known as stacked prints, are one of the most popular prints.

First, the draft

Draw a simple sketch on white paper with a pencil, which only determines the image position and action of the picture. Just draw the outline with a pencil. After drawing the outline, transfer each part to the cardboard with carbon paper.

Second, cut and paste.

When making a plate, you should first find a slightly thicker cardboard as a backing plate, or you can use horse manure cardboard instead. The size of the substrate is the same as that of the printed work. Cut the separately transferred image along the outer contour, sometimes tear it by hand, and then stick it on the bottom plate layer by layer with latex as shown. Generally, the order of pasting is from outside to inside, from time to time, from big to small. For example, you should stick your head portrait on your face first, then on your hair, mouth, nose, eyes and eyebrows, and finally on your eyes. Each layer should be pressed by hand to make all parts stick together.

After pasting and combining the images, put them on the bottom plate, turn them up and down, and study them carefully. If you feel that the position is appropriate and the composition is reasonable, you can paste the image on the substrate with latex.

Clip-and-paste printmaking can appropriately select some physical objects as paste materials, and the texture of these materials will make the picture more vivid and changeable.

Third, printing.

Clipboard prints can be printed with ink or water-based pigments.

1. mimeograph

Most mimeographed products are monochrome, and the printing technology and method are the same as those of black and white woodcut.

(1) Adjust the ink on the ink adjustment board.

(2) Roll the adjusted ink evenly on the page with an oil roller.

(3) Cover the plate with printing paper.

(4) Grinding and printing with bamboo shoot skin eraser.

(5) check.

(6) the work is completed.

2. Watermark

The watermark is a multicolor or monochrome version. The printing process and method are basically the same as watermark woodcut.

(1) Spray the printing paper with a sprayer to make it evenly wet.

(2) Put away the paper tray and fix it on the workbench with thumbtacks.

(3) Cover the wet printing paper on the layout, press it with paperweight on the left, and then turn the printing paper to the left.

(4) Dip a pen in pigment, evenly spread it on the layout, and then cover the printed paper on the layout.

(5) Quickly put an old newspaper on the printed paper and grind it with a bamboo shoot eraser.

(6) Take away the old newspaper, turn the printed paper back to the left, and continue painting and printing.

(7) check.

(8) After the work is completed, put it on a clean plywood to dry.

In the process of watermarking, if the printed paper is dry, attention should be paid to proper water spraying and wetting, and never dry printing.
