What is a virus vaccine?
There are two basic types of vaccines: live attenuated vaccines and inactivated vaccines. The characteristics of live vaccine and inactivated vaccine are different, which determines the use of vaccine.
5. 1 live attenuated vaccine
Attenuated live vaccines are prepared by improving ("wild") viruses or bacteria in the laboratory. The microorganisms of the obtained vaccine strains retain the ability of replication (growth) and immunity, but they are usually not pathogenic. Attenuated live vaccines include live virus vaccines and live bacterial vaccines.
6.2 Inactivated vaccine
Inactivated vaccines can be composed of complete viruses or bacteria or their split fragments. The split vaccine can be protein vaccine or polysaccharide vaccine. Protein vaccine includes toxoid (inactivated bacterial toxin) and subunit or sub-toxic granular products. Most polysaccharide vaccines consist of purified cell wall polysaccharides from bacteria. Conjugated polysaccharide vaccine is a vaccine obtained by chemically connecting polysaccharide with protein, which makes polysaccharide a more effective vaccine.
