Small treatment plants normally put a Babbitt metering tank in front of the constant-speed lifting pump. In large treatment plants or where variable speed pumps are used, the metering tank can be placed behind the water pump. In most independent domestic sewage plants, the sediment pool is placed behind the lift pump, but when the sludge load is predicted to be large, the sediment pool should be placed in front of the pump.

However, due to the reasons of sludge disposal and operation cost, this process is only used in small towns, and the pretreatment data of wastewater treatment chemicals addition and dephosphorization are expected to be adopted.
