Li national religion's totem worship

In ancient times, each clan had its own totem, and different clans had different totem worship and ideas. A tribe can include different totem worship clans. The totem worship of Li nationality probably came into being at the same time as the matriarchal clan society of Li nationality, which is characterized by a certain blood relationship between people and certain animal and plant species.

The totem worship of the Li nationality includes dragons, birds, dogs, cows, cats, snakes, frogs and fish. In terms of plants, there are rice, kapok, bananas, sweet potatoes and melons. For example, in Harbin dialect of Dongfang City, Li people have "children of the dragon" in their surnames and think they are children of the dragon. There is a "fish dragon village" among the Li people in the Mobil dialect of Xixiang. There used to be a "Longyin Cave" where the Li people lived in compact communities. They think that they have a special relationship with dragons, and regard dragons as the symbol and title of their clan groups, and regard dragons as their patron saint. Li people in Maodao area of Baoting Li and Miao Autonomous County think that cats are their ancestors, so they are forbidden to kill and avoid eating, buried after death, and even expressed their condolences. Li people in Tiandu and Maling areas of Sanya believe that the big shark is their ancestor, and they bury it after it dies. The Li surname in Harbin dialect of Dongfang City means "the child of kapok flower", "the child of banana" and "the child of potato". This reflects that they regard these animals and plants as the names of different blood clan groups and regard these animals and plants as the protectors of their own blood clan groups.
