From the form of artistic expression can be divided into drama, opera, dance drama, opera and so on:

Drama is characterized by dialogue as the main means of expression. Dialogue must be standardized literary language, be easy to understand, easy for the audience to accept, suitable for reflecting life. Opera is a kind of vocal and instrumental music synthesized into a form of drama, so also called opera for music drama. Some operas have only singing, no monologue and dialog, while others have all three. The singing and music of an opera are very important, and the language of the libretto should be that of poetry. Dance drama is the art of theater that combines dance, music and drama. It is characterized by the development of the plot and the portrayal of the characters, which are mainly expressed by the actors' dance movements (and the language of music).

By length, it is divided into one-act plays and multi-act plays:

The one-act play is a short play in one act. Due to the display of the plot is subject to strict time, scene and other restrictions, the requirements of a compact structure, the conflict unfolds relatively quickly, while the basic parts of the plot - the beginning, development, climax, the end but should be shown. Multi-act plays are large-scale dramas. The capacity is large and the storyline is complex. Because it is divided into acts and scenes, with the ability to change the curtain to show the interval of time and the transfer of space, it is possible to transfer the events that are not easy to perform on the stage to the back of the curtain to deal with different time, different space events, reflecting a wider range of social life.

From the content, nature and aesthetic category, there are tragedy, comedy, drama, etc.:

Tragedy was first performed in ancient Greece, is the spring sowing for the thanks of the gods and the song of the goats, so tragedy in the Greek is the meaning of "song of the goats". In the earliest tragedies, the protagonist was inescapable under the domination of fate, and often ended in failure and demise. With the development of the times, the concept of tragedy has fundamentally changed. Shakespeare's tragic characters, for example, show that the contradictions between ideals and aspirations and social reality are irreconcilable. In ancient Greece, comedy was originally a carnival song and dance performed to thank the gods for the harvest of grapes in the fall, so comedy means "song of carnival" in Greek. When the carnival songs and dances were held, the leaders often had to say some jokes to make people laugh. Therefore, comedy is characterized by funny forms to ridicule and satirize the ugly phenomena in life and the shortcomings and weaknesses of certain characters. Lu Xun said that comedy is "to tear that which is worthless and show it to people". Generally speaking, the ending of comedy is always happy and successful. Positive drama is a type between tragedy and comedy. In dramatic literature, positive drama is plentiful. Social life is not, in most cases, presented as purely tragic or comedic, but as a mixture of sadness and joy. It often reflects a conscious struggle between two forces, mixed with elements of sadness and joy, and when the side representing justice finally triumphs, with a happy ending, people call it a positive drama, or a tragic-comedy.
