Methods, advantages and disadvantages of cleaning teeth
Tooth cleaning can be divided into manual tooth cleaning and ultrasonic tooth cleaning according to the different instruments used. Manual scaling refers to the use of different types of manual scaling devices, while ultrasonic scaling refers to the use of ultrasonic scaling devices.
1. Manual scaling
The disadvantage of manual cleaning is obvious, that is, it takes time and effort. It usually takes about 3 hours to complete the manual cleaning of the whole mouth teeth, even for patients with a lot of tartar, it needs to be done several times. During this process, the patient needs to keep his mouth open. It is undoubtedly uncomfortable for patients to open their mouths for a long time, and long-term surgery is a kind of torture for doctors. Therefore, manual scaling is less and less used in clinic, and ultrasonic scaling is replaced.
However, manual scaling also has its advantages. For doctors, manual scaling feels better, and you can feel the existence of tartar more truly. Manual scaling is soft, and there is no water spray during the operation, so patients will not feel strong discomfort and reduce the chance of clinical cross-infection.
2. Ultrasonic scaling
The ultrasonic dental cleaner consists of an ultrasonic generator and a transducer. The generator emits electromagnetic oscillation and amplifies power. The transducer converts high-frequency electric energy into ultrasonic vibration, and the vibration frequency reaches 20000 ~ 45000Hz. The tartar attached to the tooth surface is removed by the high-frequency oscillation of the working head on the transducer. The working head of ultrasonic dental scaler has many shapes, such as sharp circle, flat and so on. The appropriate working head can be selected according to the size and position of dental calculus.
In addition, the ultrasonic dental cleaner is equipped with a water spraying system. When the ultrasonic vibration of the working head is started, the water spraying system sprays water to the working head at the same time to form aerosol, which on the one hand plays the role of cooling the working head, and on the other hand plays the role of forming a cavity, that is, tiny vacuum bubbles in the sprayed water droplets quickly burst to generate energy, which washes away dental calculus, dental plaque and the like, and washes away broken dental calculus and blood stains.
The advantage of ultrasonic scaling is that it saves time and effort. Generally, the supragingival scaling of the whole tooth can be completed in about one hour.
After ultrasonic scaling, a probe should be used to carefully check whether there are any missing dental calculus. If there are some small dental calculus and adjacent dental calculus, it should be cleaned with manual instruments.
In addition, some patients are not suitable for ultrasonic scaling. Patients with infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis, hepatitis B antigen positive, HIV infection, etc. It is forbidden to use ultrasonic dental scaler because the spray it produces will pollute the operating area and the surrounding environment. Patients with respiratory diseases should not use ultrasonic dental scalers, such as patients with respiratory depression and patients with chronic lung diseases. Water spraying and spraying during ultrasonic treatment will bring danger to these patients. Generally, patients wearing pacemakers are forbidden to use ultrasonic dental scalers, so as not to interfere with the work of pacemakers and lead to arrhythmia and other symptoms.
