What is ponytail embroidery?

Horsetail embroidery has always been embroidered by Shui people in Sandu, Guizhou, but the embroidery thread is made of horsetail wool, so everyone calls it horsetail embroidery. This technology is irreplaceable by machines, so it is included in the intangible cultural heritage. Steps of ponytail embroidery stitch:

The first step of ponytail embroidery needle: make ponytail thread. That is, two or three ponytails are wrapped into ponytails with silk thread (mostly white);

The second step of ponytail embroidery: fixing the frame pattern. Thread the ponytail with a large needle, then thread the silk money of the same color with another smaller needle, then insert various patterns on the cloth surface with the ponytail, and fix the patterns on the cloth surface with a small needle with silk thread;

The third step of ponytail embroidery: filling the heart. "That is, all kinds of silk threads (mostly black, dark green and purple) are used to fill the gaps in the fixed pattern;

The fourth step of ponytail embroidery stitch: hemming. Pick out the edge pattern of the surrounding "pepper" with orange and dark green silk threads;

The fifth step of ponytail embroidery: point "money". Sew small shiny copper pieces on embroidery to increase the brightness of embroidery;

Ponytail embroidery needle Step 6: Binding. Because the ponytail embroidery process is complicated and meticulous, every step is made by hand. For the convenience of operation, people divide the embroidery into several small pieces. When each piece is finished, sew them together in sequence with a needle and thread. After the six processes are completed, a complete ponytail embroidery handicraft is finished.
