Geography

Yuyao is located in the Ningbo Plain of East Zhejiang Province, neighboring Jiangbei District of Ningbo City and Yinxian County in the east, resting on the Simei Mountain in the south, bordering Fenghua and Shengxian Counties in the south, connecting to Shangyu City in the west, and Cixi City in the north, with the Qiantang River, Hangzhou Bay, and Hangzhou City in the northwest, and the Ciqi City in the north. Northwest in the Qiantang River, Hangzhou Bay centerline and Haiyan County border. The east-west pole distance is 58.5 kilometers, and the north-south pole distance is 79 kilometers. Fluorite, kaolin and granite resources are rich in the Yao Nan Mountain area and have development value. Xiaoyong Railway crosses the central part of the city, National Highway 329 passes through the northern part of the city, and Yao River is a section of Zhedong Canal, which makes the land and water transportation convenient. The southern mountainous area is a strategic place in east Zhejiang.

Han people are mainly, there are Miao, Bai, Zhuang, Buyi and other ethnic minorities. Metal mineral resources are copper, iron, lead, zinc and so on. Non-metallic mineral resources are fluorite, kaolin, clay, quartz, phosphorus, peat and so on. Wildlife resources include pangolin, otter, cranes, whooping cranes, black storks, mandarin ducks, gray cranes, ginkgo nuts and so on. There are more than 40 kinds of Chinese herbal medicines, such as Loosestrife Tun, Guanzhong, Tempranillo, Poria, Salvia, Honeysuckle and so on. History

Yuyao got its name from different accounts. On one hand, it is said in the Book of Wind and Land that the place where Shun Wenshu was sealed, Shun's surname was Yao, so it was called Yuyao ("the place where Shun's later branches were sealed, Shun's surname was Yao, so it was Yuyao"). On the other hand, "The Book of Yue Jie" ruled that Xia Shaokang sealed Shao Yu Wu Yu in Huiji to fulfill the record of Yuji, and Yao was his term of residence, so it was called Yu Yao. Mountains and Seas Classic" Guo Pu note, Jiuyu Mountain in Huiji Yuyao County, south of Jiuzhang County, north, so the two counties so the name cloud, this is the third statement. There is also a saying, "eupu have sentence Yu mountain, and south of the yao river", so the name. There is another saying, the Ming dynasty "county interpretation of the name" said, the county under the Huiji, in the Yuyao mountain west, to the east of the river has a Yao surname, so it is called Yuyao. Recently, some people advocate, Yuyao for the Yue language place names, the meaning of Shi Ming.

In the Qin Dynasty, Yuyao County was set up (one said that Han built), belonging to Huiji County. Jian'an five years of the Eastern Han Dynasty (200 years) began to build the county town, one of the ancient county towns in East Zhejiang. According to "Taiping Huan Yu Ji", in the beginning of Tang Dynasty, "Yuyao was a huge town of Yuezhou with Mingzhou in the east and Shangyu in the west", and it was once elevated to Yao Prefecture (Yao Prefecture was set up in the fourth year of Tang Dynasty's Wude (621 AD)). In the Song Dynasty, it was "Wangxian County" and "the most famous cognizant county in the southeast". In 1295, it was changed to Yuyao Prefecture. Ming Hongwu two years (1369) abolished the state to restore the county. 1911 November 8 (Qing Xuantong three years on September 18) Yuyao "recovery".

On May 23, 1949, Yuyao was liberated. After the establishment of new China, the territory has changed many times, the biggest one is in 1954, the cotton area north of Dagutang was assigned to Cixi County, Cixi County, the western part of the rice area, mountainous areas were assigned to Yuyao County.

On July 26, 1985, the county was abolished and established as a city under Ningbo City, with 9 districts, 8 towns and 63 townships.

Economy
