Hui traditional festivals
Eid al-Fitr is a free translation of "Dale Feitour" in Arabic. This festival is the day when Muslims break fast, and it is also the biggest and most grand festival for the Hui people. It is held on the first day of October every year. According to Islamic classics, in the early days of Islam, when fasting for the full moon, Muhammad, the founder of Islam, led Muslims to walk to the public wilderness in the suburbs for worship. After bathing, Muhammad wore neat clothes and distributed "Fitr" money. Since then, Muslims have celebrated this day as a festival.
Holy Day, also known as sacred taboo day and Maulud day, is one of the three major festivals in Islam. Since Muhammad's birth and death happened on March 12 in the Islamic calendar, Hui people generally called it "holy auspicious day" to commemorate Muhammad's birth.
Eid al-Adha, translated from Arabic into "Daier Eid al-Adha", is called "Xiaoerde" by Hui people in Yunnan and other places. This festival is held on the 70th day after Eid al-Fitr, that is, on 10 in the Islamic calendar. Hui people attach importance to Eid al-Adha, second only to Eid al-Fitr. On this day, they will bathe in costumes, attend ceremonies and worship each other. Besides frying oil incense and prickly heat, cattle, sheep and camels should also be slaughtered.
