The emergence of pottery has a great and special significance in the history of mankind, "Those grey, black, red, white, and colored potteries shining with the glory of the wisdom of primitive man, as well as the various forms of printed ceramics, are symbolic of the primitive man's intention from the single red sacrificial relationship, towards a multi-colored comparative relationship". In order to grasp the essence of the characteristics of ancient Chinese civilization, the object of investigation should be: the evolution of a period of history from the relatively early form to the more advanced form within a certain geographical range. Therefore, this paper selects colored pottery as the entry point, and traces back to the prehistoric times to analyze the traditional Chinese color aesthetic psychology from its origin.

Primitive society people have learned to use color to decorate their living environment. With the deepening of their understanding of the natural world, the ancestors used natural mineral pigments to depict on pottery, and after firing, they obtained patterns of various colors. This process expresses the ancestors' knowledge and preference for color. Of course, due to the limitations of technology and pigments, the process of making colored pottery was relatively simple. Ochre and manganese oxide were used as coloring agents on the polished billets, and after being fired in the kiln, beautiful patterns in red, white, black, and ochre were displayed on the pottery body. First coloring and then firing makes the color and texture and pottery body shape of the three highly unified, this process makes the colored pottery is very ornamental. Primitive man's perception of natural colors is limited to red, white and black, and the variety of colors in each color family is extremely limited. On the present archaeological discovery and documentary records, the colored pottery also chose the red, white and black color system. This paper attempts to find the intrinsic connection between this phenomenon, but also to analyze the traditional Chinese color concept of reverence for the five colors and reverence for black two color aesthetic tendency to produce the basis.
