What are the thick coating method and Bo Tu method?
That is, thick and oily colors are used to overlap paintings, which is a unique coloring method of oil painting pigments. Because the color of oil painting dries slowly, the thick color can be scraped off or covered at any time when painting. Thick coating is a planned thick pile of pigments, the purpose is to highlight the key points and shape the texture. The stacked three-dimensional entities bring a heavy appearance to the oil painting. Thick coating technology is suitable for rough and solid support materials, and can be painted with various tools such as paint brushes and scrapers. Generally, heavy oil painting color and polymer toner are used for color matching. If you use alkyd color oil, the color can be thicker and smoother, and at the same time, it can add luster to the picture. Rembrandt was the first artist to use "thick painting". In his works, the bright part of his face is thick, so some people in Amsterdam satirize his portrait and hang it up with his nose.
Bo Tu used a soft and irregular material to add a thin layer of color to another layer of transparent color, so that this layer of transparent color appeared through the upper layer.
Compared with thick coating. It is different from covering dyeing, but it is covered with opaque color. It can be used not only in a large area, but also in local characterization. Using Bo Tu technology in transparent painting can restore the high-key parts that darken when the mask is dyed. Gai Dye and Bo Tu can be perfectly combined. Using heavy color overlay dyeing in dark parts and shadow parts, and using saturated color Bo Tu in figures' faces and clothing details will make the picture rich in color and strong in texture.
