Introduction to Puppetry

Puppetry is a theater that uses puppets to perform stories. It is one of the traditional arts of the Han people, also known as puppet theater in ancient China. Chinese puppet theater has a long history, the general view is: originated in Han, Xing in Tang. In the Three Kingdoms, there were already puppeteers for acrobatic performances, and in the Sui Dynasty, puppeteers began to be used to perform stories. During the performance, the actors manipulate the puppets behind the curtain while singing, accompanied by music. According to the different forms of puppets and manipulation techniques, there are cloth bag puppets, string puppets, rod puppets, wire puppets and so on. Puppetry is a form of theater in which actors manipulate wooden dolls behind the scenes. 12006 May 20, puppetry was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
