What is the source of surrealism?

1. Surrealism is a school of western modern art, which has a wide influence and lasts for a long time. It has spread from the ideological field to the field of literary and artistic creation, pursuing the free release of primitive impulse and unconsciousness, and regards artistic creation as a purely personal spontaneous process.

2. Surrealism began at 1924 and ended at 1969. It has gone through more than 40 years, which is a period of the integration of many modernist art schools, drawing a satisfactory end to the development of modernist art. After World War II, modernist art began to develop into contemporary art, opening another new era of art.

3. The spiritual root of surrealism is very complicated, which not only belongs to the field of art, but also is a philosophical thought born out of Dadaism at the beginning of its birth. Dadaism pursues anti-art, anti-order, anti-logic, jumps out of subjective art and creates in an unconscious state. Surrealism is deepened on this basis.

4. Surrealism is completely liberated from the shackles, rules, experience and logic of the real world on the basis of Dadaism unconsciousness. It is the expression of people's pure consciousness and the existence beyond reality itself.

5. During the birth of surrealism, the famous psychologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, Freud's book The Interpretation of Dreams, was very popular. Scholars, writers, artists and musicians all like to explore dreams. Dreams are not bound by reality, so I can give full play to them, and surrealism is to explore these things that are suppressed in reality and become possible in dreams, and to pursue the absolute release and freedom of the spirit.

6. The founder of surrealism is the poet André Breton, who published the Surrealism Manifesto in 1924, the core of which is to discuss the automaticity that naturally flows out of the subconscious and then liberate it from traditional ideas and art.

7. The earliest creative form born under the surrealist framework is not surrealist painting, but automatic writing and automatic painting. Automatic writing is the pursuit of writing free and fluent words in an unconscious state, without logic, just like talking in a dream, without expressing specific meaning.

8. At first, artists were very skeptical whether this surreal unconscious state could be shown in painting. So before surrealist painting was born, artists were exploring painting, which is called automatic painting. There are no basic images in paintings, and most of them are unconscious patterns.

9. Surrealism is influenced by metaphysical art in expression. But the painting is very realistic, and the artist's creative techniques are also very classical, but the scenes are often full of contradictions and have no practical significance.

10. Although the scenes in metaphysical art are absurd, people can create the same scenes in reality through deliberate arrangement. Surrealism, on the other hand, goes further, breaking the boundaries of form, unable to reproduce the scenes in the painting in reality, which is the ultimate release of imagination. Masterpieces such as Rene Magritte's Know What You Can't Do and salvador dali's The Omen of Civil War have distorted characters and elongated bodies, which is impossible in reality.

1 1. As we said before, Bos, a "great traveler" in the Renaissance, had a very surreal feeling in his work Paradise on Earth, and used realistic description to express scenes that did not exist in reality.
