Characteristics of dialects in China
Basically, dialects can be divided into several categories:
1. Northern dialects?
It is customarily called "official language". There are Northeastern Mandarin, Northwestern Mandarin, Jinhua, Southwestern Mandarin, and so on. Represented by the Beijing dialect, including the north of the Yangtze River, Zhenjiang above Jiujiang below the river zone, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hubei, Hunan provinces in the northwestern part of the northern part of Guangxi, the use of the population accounted for more than 70% of the total number of Han Chinese.
2. Xiang dialect?
The Changsha dialect, represented by the Changsha dialect, is distributed in most parts of Hunan Province, and its speakers account for 40% of the total Han population.
3. Wu dialect?
The Wu dialect is known as "Wunong", and is represented by Shanghainese (or Suzhou dialect). It is spoken in the south of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province and in the east of Zhenjiang (Zhenjiang is not included) in most of Zhejiang Province. It is spoken by about 8.4% of the total Han Chinese population.
4. Southern Fujian dialect?
The Xiamen dialect, represented by the Xiamen dialect, is spoken in the southern part of Fujian Province, the eastern part of Guangdong Province and part of Hainan Province, as well as in most of Taiwan Province. Many overseas Chinese in the South China Sea also speak the Minnan dialect, which accounts for about 3% of the total number of Han Chinese.
5. Cantonese dialect?
The Cantonese dialect is represented by the Guangzhou dialect, which is distributed in most parts of Guangdong Province and southeastern Guangxi. Most of our compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and overseas Chinese in Nanyang and some other countries speak Cantonese, and the population accounts for about 5% of the total number of Han Chinese.
