What does engagement mean?

Engagement means that a man is engaged to a woman.

Engagement, also called engagement, can be equated with engagement ring in western countries. In our traditional custom, there is no such thing as an engagement ring, but it is called an engagement ring. Especially in the old society, the man's mother would pass on the ancestral ring to the future daughter-in-law, which meant recognition of the woman's status.

According to the folk custom in China, there is usually an engagement ceremony before marriage: signing an engagement, exchanging gifts, or setting up a matchmaker. Engagement is not a necessary procedure and condition for marriage. Whether to enter into an engagement is up to the parties themselves, and the law does not interfere. However, the marriage contract must be completely voluntary by both men and women, and no other person may interfere forcibly.

Engagement notice:

1. The engagement shall be concluded without agency, otherwise it will have no legal effect; In other words, the engagement can only be established if both men and women agree.

2. Only those who have the legal capacity for engagement can engage in engagement. The legal definition of engagement ability is based on age: male 17 years old, female 15 years old. A marriage contract concluded in violation of this provision is not invalid, but the parties or legal representatives may request the court to cancel it. Because, for minors under the age of 20, their engagement must be approved by the legal representative.

3. The engagement should not be enforced. Although the engagement should be observed, it should also follow the wishes of both men and women. If one party fails to perform, it cannot be enforced.
