Mount Putuo, together with Mount Wutai in Shanxi, Mount Emei in Sichuan and Mount Jiuhua in Anhui, is also known as the four famous Buddhist mountains in China, and it is the Dojo where Guanyin Bodhisattva educates all beings. Mount Putuo is one of Zhoushan Islands 1390 islands. It looks like a black dragon lying in the sea, with an area of nearly 1.3 square kilometers. Across the sea from shenjiamen in Zhoushan Archipelago, it is known as the "Buddha Country at Sea" and "Holy Land of the South China Sea". It is the first batch of national key scenic spots. On May 8, 2007 (the year of Ding Hai), Putuo Mountain Scenic Spot in Zhoushan City was officially approved by the National Tourism Administration as a national 5A-level tourist scenic spot. "There is a fairy mountain on the sea, which is a part of the intangible world". Putuo Mountain has become a famous tourist attraction at home and abroad because of its magic, sacredness and mystery.
