Brief introduction of Zeng Dawu

There are several besieged cities with different names in Hong Kong, and there happens to be a Zeng Mansion in Lin Village, Kowloon, which is the best preserved and the largest. As the name implies, there are people with the same surname Zeng living in this walled village. This besieged city is not an exhibition memorial hall, but there are still residents living in it. There is a yard in front of the big house, where the villagers used to winnow the crops. Zeng Dawu is the most representative Hakka traditional walled village building in Hong Kong. Located beside the Lion Rock Tunnel Road in the east of Sha Tin, New Territories, formerly known as Shanxiawei. Zeng Dawu was named after the villagers all surnamed Zeng. Founded in 1848, Zeng Guanwan, the ancestor of the village, and his brother 1830 went to Hong Kong to make a living. In the early days, two brothers opened a stone workshop in Shau Kei Wan. Twenty years later, they bought mountains and fields in Tian Ge village in the east of Shatian, and built a castle-style mountain house with an area of 6,500 square meters. The construction method is to connect houses to form a rectangular village, which is the traditional Hakka village construction method. There are carved castles in the four corners of the big house, and the city walls are used to resist foreign invasion.
