What is the difference between ECVT and CVT?

1, the use of the difference:

CVT is also known as the continuously variable transmission, this transmission is widely used in Japanese models above, matched with the CVT transmission models, usually also has a linear smooth acceleration, economic and fuel-saving characteristics. E-CVT, on the other hand, is usually adopted by Toyota or Lexus hybrid models.

2, the internal structure of the difference:

The internal structure of the CVT mainly contains the input disc, output disc and transmission steel belt. E-CVT does not have such parts as discs and drive belts, but instead has a planetary gear mechanism that is generally found in AT transmissions.

3, Structural differences:

CVT gearbox from the structure of the two sets of cone wheels and drive belt, and the entire gearbox can not be directly connected to the engine in the middle of the gearbox and the engine needs to be connected to the torque converter flexibly so as to ensure that the gearbox can work properly. The transmission is connected to the engine by a flexible torque converter to ensure the normal operation of the transmission.

The structure of E-CVT is a bit simpler, its main components have four major parts, the outer gear ring, planetary carrier, planetary gears, sun wheel, which the outer gear ring is connected to the MG2 motor, the planetary carrier is connected to the engine, and the sun wheel is connected to the MG1 motor. Because of its relatively simple structure, the E-CVT transmission itself is very compact. And the E-CVT can be directly connected to the engine and motor.
