Comic opera has three major origins: Beijing's Tianqiao, Tianjin's Guanyechang and Nanjing's Fuzhimiao, and is generally believed to have been formed during the years of Xianfeng and Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty. It is a form of Chinese opera that uses jokes or comical questions and answers to make the audience laugh. It evolved from the Song Dynasty's "Xiangsheng". In the late Qing Dynasty, the comedy formed a modern character and style. It is mainly spoken in Beijing dialect, but there are also "dialect comedies" spoken in local dialects. In the process of the formation of comedy, it drew extensively on ventriloquism, storytelling and other artistic strengths, and put Zhuang in harmony, using satirical jokes to express the truth, goodness and beauty, and making people laugh as an artistic feature, with "talking, learning, teasing and singing" as the main artistic means. There are three forms of performance: monologue, counterpoint and group. Single-mouth comedy is performed by an actor, telling jokes; counterpart comedy is performed by two actors, one holding and one teasing, and there are usually "one head sinking" and "mother and son comics" in two categories; group-mouth comedy is also known as "group work", which consists of more than three actors. The group comedy is also called "group work" and is performed by more than three actors. The traditional repertoire is based on satirizing various ugly phenomena in the old society and reflecting various life phenomena through witty narratives. After the liberation of China, in addition to continuing to carry forward the satirical tradition, there are also works that glorify new people and new events. The traditional repertoire includes "Guan Gong and Qin Qiong", "Drama and Dialect", "Jia Xingjia", "Picking the Horse's Coat", etc., totaling more than 200 pieces. The works reflecting real life are more influential, such as Night Journey, Buying Monkey and Hat Factory.
