What are the customs in Chaoshan?

The customs in Chaoshan are: Orchid Festival, Burning Tower in Mid-Autumn Festival, Everyone's Day and Labor Day.

1, Kogasawara Festival

This festival is on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month, also known as Orchid Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival. It should be noted that, in a sense, Zhongyuan Festival belongs to Taoism, Bonihara Festival belongs to Buddhism, and July and a half ancestor worship festival belongs to folk customs. In some places, it is usually called Ghost Festival, Shigu, Danzhai, Local Officials' Day and so on.

2. Burning towers in Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival burns towers on the 14th day of the eighth lunar month every year. Every village in Vaud will send people to build towers. The height of the tower is generally between1.5m. When the village is big, the tower will be big, and the bottom of the tower should be built with bricks. Most of the tower body is made of broken tiles, accounting for about 3/4 of the tower height, and then covered with tile garden. There must be a tower door at the bottom of the tower. The front door is used to put fuel and the back door is used to pull ash. At night, it is lit and burned. The fuel is straw and chaff, which are mainly collected by young people beating gongs and drums.

3. People's Day

People's Day is also called People's Day, People's Day, Population Day, People's Day, etc. The seventh day of the first lunar month is an ancient traditional festival in China. It is said that Nu Wa created chickens, dogs, pigs, sheep, cows, horses and other animals at the beginning of creation, and then created people on the seventh day, so this day is the birthday of mankind. Some people began to observe daily customs in the Han dynasty, and they began to pay attention to it after the Wei and Jin Dynasties.

4. Fatigue

The folk custom of "Old Fever" originated from chaozhou people's incomparable worship of land, which led to the emergence of "Land God". The land god was called "She" by the ancients and "Land God" by chaozhou people (it is worth mentioning that chaozhou people worships the land god in shops, homes and factories, and can also be seen in Ming Weng Teahouse). "Old fever", a folk activity, has been passed down in Chaozhou for thousands of years.

5, chandelier customization

From the 11th to 18th of the first month, especially the Lantern Festival, every household in Chaoshan has the custom of playing lanterns and hanging chandeliers. Because "Deng" and "Ding" are homophonic in Chaozhou dialect, lighting and Gading are close sounds, so chaozhou people thinks that lighting is a good omen for Gading. On the Lantern Festival, people carry lanterns, prepare paper and silver incense one after another, light them in temples in the countryside, and hang them on shrines at home and bedside, which is called "hanging happy lanterns".
