Assembly of mountain bike

A mountain bike, as its name implies, is a bicycle that can travel in the wild in the mountains. The first impression is that the appearance is rough, the tires are wide, the shock absorption is rough, and the transmission system is complex. In fact, according to the different off-road intensity, mountain bikes are mainly divided into: off-road (XC), all-mountain (AM), free riding (FR), downhill (DH) and extreme free riding (EFR), as well as mud jumping (focusing on action and mud racing). What we usually see is basically a mountain bike belonging to XC off-road category. Here is a brief introduction to the selection and assembly of this kind of car.

In fact, everything is the same. First of all, I need to know that everything I want to assemble needs those basic parts. Then, how to choose and match parts. Finally, you need some simple knowledge and hands-on ability to assemble the purchased parts.

Let's start with the basic parts of mountain bikes. As a bicycle, mountain bikes are no different from ordinary bicycles, and they are all composed of the following parts:

Frame-I don't need to say more, simply understand the names of the main parts of modern mountain bike frame, as shown below (this is XC frame without rear shock absorber), in which the five directions are used to install the central axle and the tail hook is used to install the rear transmission:

Front fork-a fork that holds the front wheel. The upper tube diameter of the front fork of modern sports bicycle is generally 28.6MM, and the tube diameter of the front fork of heavy vehicle and Cannondale brand is thicker.

Bowl set-a round part installed at the joint between the frame and the front fork, with balls or closed bearings inside, which is responsible for the rotation of the front of the car. Generally, there are two types of light mountain bikes: 34MM outer box and 44MM inner box, depending on the type of frame head tube.

Generally, the diameter of the transverse handle is roughly divided into 25.4MM and 3 1.8MM, which need to match the stem with the same caliber, and the thinnest part of the transverse handle is 22.2 mm

Handle cover-the part placed on the horizontal handle and held by hand.

Connect the metal tube with the horizontal handle vertically and fix the horizontal handle on it.

Brake handle-a handle that is caught when braking.

Brake-Brake device, used on mountain bikes, is generally divided into V-type brake and disc brake. Disc brakes are divided into mechanical disc brakes (cable-pulling type) and hydraulic disc brakes (the piston is controlled by the pressure of the liquid in the oil pipe to push the brake pad to brake). The braking object of V brake is the rim edge, while the disc brake is the disc.

Wheelset-consists of three parts: rim, spokes and hub, in which the hub is also called front/rear axle, which is responsible for wheel rotation. Here, it is emphasized that the hub length of light mountain bike is generally 1 10MM in front and 135MM in rear, with the front axle core diameter of 9MM and the rear axle core diameter of 65438. Generally speaking, the "ringing number" of the flower drum refers to the number of ringing noises heard when the base of the flower drum rotates once. The greater the noise, the smaller the pedaling position, which is suitable for riding with strong movements, such as climbing, cross-country or climbing, but the rotating resistance of the flower drum is greater, while the flower drum with smaller ring number is generally smaller, which is suitable for riding mainly on flat roads and downhill roads. In my opinion, when riding on various roads (excluding extreme cross-country), the 24-36 ring flower drum is the best, which takes into account the low virtual space and high speed, which is why experienced players rarely use the 72 ring chris king flower drum to ride on the flat ground, not only because it is expensive.

Central shaft-installed in the five-way connection, connecting the crank and the toothed plate, which is directly related to the pedal. It is mainly divided into square hole central shaft, spline central shaft and GXP integrated central shaft. The specific selection needs to match the central shaft hole of the crank. At present, most parts manufacturers mainly promote GXP integrated shaft-light weight and high strength, but the square hole and spline shaft are actually great to use. Light mountain bikes generally use 68MM (the length of the thicker part except the axle core)-inch thread specification, and heavy vehicles are longer. The number 10X- 12XMM we see on the central axis is the total length of the central axis including the shaft core. The following figure shows the central axis of square hole, spline and GXP from left to right respectively.

Crank-two sticks connecting pedals.

Toothed plate-the toothed plate located in the middle of the bicycle.

Chain-not explained, but it must match the number of flywheel pieces (now it is generally divided into 7-segment chain, 8-segment chain, 9-segment chain and 10-segment chain).

Flywheel-the gear set located at the back of the bicycle. Flywheels used for variable-speed sports bicycles are mostly box flywheels, which are installed on the tower foundation.

Pedal-divided into open type and self-locking type. Self-locking type needs to be matched with special lock shoes, which is not recommended for beginners. It's dangerous, but it will obviously improve the trampling efficiency.

Transmission system-divided into finger-moving, forward (front transmission) and backward (rear transmission).

Brake/transmission lines-divided into internal lines and pipes. If it is hydraulic braking, there is no pipeline inside, and the external pipe is called oil pipe.

Inner/outer tires-I won't explain. Inner tires are generally divided into American and French valves, depending on the valve hole of the rim, but they can be modified with each other. Mountain bikes are recommended to use American gas nozzles, which are convenient to inflate.

Buffer belt-lined between the inner tube and the rim to prevent the rim hole from pressing the inner tube and causing tire puncture when the air pressure is too high.

Car seat-no explanation

Seat Pillar-The tube connecting the seat bottom and the frame. Modern mountain bikes are generally divided into diameters of 27.2MM, 30.8MM, 3 1.8MM and 34.9 mm. Depending on the frame, some old mountain bikes with steel frames use 25.4MM and 28.6MM diameters.

Seat bar clamp-fixed seat tube installed on the frame. Some frame seat clamps are integral with the seat.

Kettle rack-haha, not the basic configuration. If you just use it as a means of transportation, this thing is completely useless. If you are a bicycle lover and often go out to ride, this thing is very useful. It is especially convenient to bring a bottle of water.

The above is the basic configuration of mountain bike.

Then let's talk about choosing accessories.

1, is the budget enough to complete every carefully planned part of the whole vehicle (pay attention to the carefully planned part, and don't just mix and match some parts that you don't like or are far from the grade of the whole vehicle when the final budget is not enough, which will only drag down your feeling of using the whole vehicle and make you spend more money in the future)

2. Whether all parts of the vehicle are reasonably matched and whether the most reasonable price distribution can be followed within the budget (for example, the speed change of different brands and grades, the unreasonable mix and match of transmission kits, or the budget of 4,000 yuan, spending 3,000 yuan on the frame and 1000 on something else will make the vehicle a failure).

3. Whether the color matching is reasonable. Because everyone's aesthetic standards are different, I am not very convincing here. In short, since it is DIY, it is necessary to complete a work with the most satisfactory color matching.

According to the above three points, we will now introduce the selection of parts:

The core part of a bicycle must be the frame. A good frame can provide a reasonable riding angle and a reasonable riding feeling, and choosing a frame is also the most important link in the loading process. When we see a whole car in a car shop, our first reaction is often: this is giant's, this is lightning's and this is drake's. In fact, the brand of bicycle often exists only in its frame, while other parts are almost all produced by other different manufacturers, and each part has its own specialty. Therefore, the frame is the real soul of the whole car.

Before choosing a frame, you must first determine your height. Hard-tailed mountain bike, people under 165cm choose 14- 15 inch frame, 165cm- 175cm choose 16- 17cm. People between 175CM- 185CM should choose a border of 18- 19 inch, and people above 185 should choose a border of 20-2 1 inch or even larger. Just like wearing clothes and shoes, bicycles need to fit their own size to make riding more handy.

At present, bicycle frames are basically made of steel, aluminum alloy, carbon fiber and titanium alloy. Among them, steel has good elasticity, strong anti-fatigue ability and full sense of lines, which is the oldest material for making bicycles. However, since the advent of aluminum alloy and carbon fiber materials in the 1990s, the market share of steel frames has become less and less, mainly concentrated in high-end products, BMX, markets and other mobile vehicles. However, it does not mean that the steel frame is backward or low-end. The aesthetic feeling of the steel frame and the comfortable road feel attracted quite a few people. I'm a big fan of steel frame cars. Aluminum alloy is a kind of light metal material, which is widely used in low-end cars. Its road surface sensing is not as direct as steel frame, and the fatigue resistance of metal is not as strong as that of steel and titanium alloy. However, its processability and short-term performance are really good, and it is the frame that bicycle lovers generally choose at present. This paper also mainly chooses aluminum frame to match the whole vehicle. Carbon fiber, a new material, is light and can be made into any desired shape, but its strength is not as fragile as the traditional concept. It has very good toughness and shock absorption ability, but it is vulnerable to direct contact impact and scissors force, and it is expensive. It is mainly used in competitions. Titanium alloy is expensive, and the fatigue resistance of metal is higher than that of aluminum and steel, but it is soft and difficult to exert force, so it is suitable for long-distance riding and belongs to a relatively small class of products.

Although the frame is the main body of the whole vehicle, its price distribution and grade adaptability with other components should be reasonably selected. Generally, the ratio of frame price should not exceed 1/3 of the whole vehicle, and it should correspond to other parts of the same grade. I will probably list several commonly used frameworks for the reference of friends who have just entered rim. If you are installing a low-end vehicle, then Giant's ATX PRO (the new model is TALON 3) is a good choice. The price around 500 yuan does not mean that its performance is also low-end. In my opinion, vehicles under 5000 yuan can choose this kind of frame, which can provide relatively ample choices for other parts, so that the matching of vehicles will not be unreasonable. At the high end, the giant XTC team, I think it is a good choice within the framework of 1000-2000 yuan. It is not an exaggeration to match Shimano XT or even the top XTR suite. Giant is indeed a brand with high cost performance. If you choose high-end hard-tailed aluminum frames in one step, then many big-name high-end aluminum frames or carbon frames such as Specialized (Lightning), Trek, Yeti and so on. You can choose according to your personal preference. At this time, your whole car will generally be higher than 10 thousand yuan or even higher, and these big-name styles are too low-end, I don't recommend choosing, because the cost performance is really not very high. At the same time, I don't recommend some small brands of frames, especially carbon fiber frames. The reason is very simple, the design may be unreasonable, the quality may not be guaranteed without professional strong testing, and there is no "pedigree".

As a mountain bike, the selection of damping front fork should be the second link to be considered after assembling a vehicle frame. The damping methods of the front fork mainly include spring, resistance glue, hydraulic pressure and air pressure. No matter what kind of shock absorber, there must be springs in its structure. Of course, the feeling of each shock absorber is completely different.

At present, the mainstream shock absorber brands are ROCKSHOX, MANITOU, FOX in the United States and MARZOCCHI in Italy, which are the four largest shock absorber front fork brands in the world. In addition, MARGURA in Germany and DT in Switzerland also produce high-end front forks, but the number of users is small.

For DIY bicycles, I suggest that only hydraulic pressure and air pressure should be considered in the front fork. The shock absorption of this kind of front fork is incomparable to that of pure spring front fork. For relatively low-end vehicles, I recommend TORA (hydraulic version) of ROCKSHOX, about 700-900 yuan, with hydraulic shock absorption and adjustable stroke (at present, the standard front fork stroke of mainstream hard-tailed mountain bike frame is 80mm- 100). If the price is above 1000 yuan, ROCKSHOX's RECON pneumatic fork is also a cost-effective choice. I like the feel of ROCKSHOX very much. It's smooth and soft, but for strength, my current streetcar (for work with big movements) uses MARZOCCHI 2005 DJ3 double pneumatic front forks. Although heavy, Marzocchi's strength is absolutely first-class. If the configuration requirements are higher and the budget is more abundant, then the high-end forks of major brands, such as SID of ROCKSHOX, REBA, R7 of MANITOU, all products of FOX and MARATHON of MARZOCCHI, deserve a formula. Of course, the high-end front fork must be matched with high-end frame and other kits! If you assemble a mountain bike, it is only used for road riding, never in the wild, and you just want to have the randomness and flexible handling of the mountain bike, then install a hard fork. The shock-absorbing front fork is definitely a burden for pure road riding. The low end is made of Moso aluminum fork, and the high end is made of carbon. I now have a high-speed mountain bike with a hard fork and a bald tire. The famous WCF steel+carbon frame and Cr-Mo steel front fork are flexible and quick to brush the street. Forks other than the above brands are not recommended, especially low-end forks. Under the banner of ultra-light and multi-function, it can't be compared with big-name things in actual use.

After selecting the front fork of the frame, choose the bowl cover by the way. The bowl group connects the frame and the front fork and is responsible for the rotation of the front of the car. When buying, please try to choose the Pei Lin bowl sleeve (the bearing responsible for rotation is sealed rather than kicked off), which is durable and feels much smoother than the bead gear. Let it go with the car like VP A7 1 ... If you want luxury goods, you can use Hope, and of course, chris king, a dream product in a bowl group. I have a second-hand one, and I have never been willing to use it ... Generally, the price of bowl sets is not too high, but the one around 100 is very easy to use. I suggest not to buy some small brand bowl sets, which are not cheaper than big brands and the quality is not guaranteed. There will be noise after a while. Besides, don't buy the chris king Bowl set which is very cheap in the market. They are all imitations. A truly brand-new chris king Bowl should be at least about 800 yuan.

Then consider the wheelset. I suggest that the wheelset of mountain bike be made by ourselves, that is, just buy the hub, rim and spokes for assembly, because it is inevitable to damage the parts of the wheelset when off-road. Once a part of the finished wheelset has problems, it is difficult to find suitable maintenance parts except authorized agents. Even if you look for an agent to order or find a warranty, it will take some time, so it is better to replace the bad ones conveniently.

First of all, there are two kinds of flower drums: ball type and bearing type. Most of the spherical shapes are produced by Shimano Company in Japan. The rotating parts of Shimano basically use loose beads as bearings. From the low-end civil car parts to the top XTR and Duraace, when the loose bead rotates, the flower drum of the loose bead is evenly stressed and easy to maintain. However, it is troublesome to debug after disassembly and reassembly. If they are loose, they must be tightened immediately, otherwise the axle block will be fatally injured when it is hit. Bearing-type integrated ball bearing is directly embedded in the hub, which has good radial force, weak axial force and convenient debugging. It is the mainstream product of European, American and Taiwan Province brands.

If the choice of flower drum is low-end, I suggest that if it is Shimano, XT should be used (not to say that XT is not good, but XT's flower drum is cheaper, after all, it is the second top product of Shimano). Because the price difference of Shimano flower drum from SLX DEORE to XT (the grades of Shimano mountain bike kit are ALTUS, ACERA, ALIVIO, DEORE, SLX, XT and XTR from low to high, among which the new LX series products have been classified as wagon kits, and HONE and SAINT are used for heavy vehicles), a pair of XT flower drums can be bought for more than 300 yuan. Bearing, Taiwan Province Jiuyu is the entry choice, around 400 yuan, and the cost performance is also very high. If it's high-end, the bead file is XTR (I'm using XTR M960 flower drum, invincible, embellish 1.600 yuan), so there are too many high-end products of bearings, I hope, DT( 190240), chris king, White Induetries, Extralite, Tune, FRM ... Finally, according to the type of brake, if it is a disc brake, you must choose a flower drum with a disc brake seat (six-hole brake disc and central locking brake disc should be made clear). It doesn't matter if you use a V brake, but in order to make the whole car feel whole, if you use a V brake, please try to choose a pure V brake, that is, a flower drum without a disc brake seat.

Then the rim. First of all, according to the brake type, if you use a V-brake, you must choose a rim with a V-brake edge. Disc brakes don't matter, but similarly, for the overall feeling, please choose a special ring for disc brakes. Low-end but durable, ALEX's DH19,60 or so, many people use it again, the better one, Sun Linlin's dark circles, 100 yuan is not enough, it is also a good choice, and it is more expensive, while Mavic's DH 17 is not available in 200 yuan, which is very good. Mavic 3 17 is also one of the most popular rims (note that Mavic 3 17 means that French products with low prices are basically imitations, and now they are basically made in Taiwan Province Province). These choices are mainly for low-end cars. If it is high-end, Mavic 7 17, DT X450 and DT X425 are all circles of 300-400, and the lowest is the flower drum with Shimano XT, and the collocation of spokes should also be considered at this level (mentioned below). No matter how extravagant it is, a circle of ZTR around 355,600 and a flower drum below 1500 need not be considered.

It is particularly important to note that the number of holes in the hub and rim must correspond!

Don't ignore spokes. Wheelsets woven with good spokes will be more rigid and durable. If it is a low-end wheelset (the budget of two wheelsets is probably within 800 yuan), then a Taiwan Province spoke 1 yuan will be enough. If it is a mid-range wheelset, the champion of DT, one from 3 yuan, and a high-end wheelset, Mavic 7 17 or above, it is best to use the Revelution of DT or a spoke of Belgian Sapim, probably one from 5 yuan. Of course, there are more luxurious flat spokes of DT and Sapim, twenty or thirty-one, which will make your wheelset feel like a finished wheelset in the store, as long as you are willing to buy it ~

In addition, pay attention to the length of spokes must be appropriate. If it is online shopping, it is necessary to find out what length of spokes are needed for the selected rims and flower drums. I bought the wrong one, just plain one. If it is a high-end DT or Sapim, then hundreds of dollars are wasted.

Regarding wheel knitting, whether you choose low-end or high-end, please find a skilled master to make the wheel set comfortable to use.

Of course, if you pursue the beauty of finished wheelsets, you can also choose low-end Mavic Crossride and DT 1800, until thousands of high-end goods such as Mavic, DT, Fulcrum and Shimano. But I still don't recommend using low-end finished wheels. The effect is really different from the homemade wheels at the price. Of course, high-end finished wheels are different.

Then, it is the choice of speed change kit. The speed change kit mentioned here refers to five parts: toothed plate, flywheel, front dial, rear dial and finger dial. At present, the shift kits for mountain bikes in the world are mainly produced by Shimano and Sram. Although you can occasionally see the products of other small brands, you should try to take the products of these two companies as candidates (except dental plates).

First of all, as mentioned above, Shimano in Japan is divided into altus, acera, livio, Dehors, SLX, XT and XTR from low to high. If DIY is a complete vehicle, it is recommended to start with DEORE level, and the kits below DEORE level are recommended to buy a complete vehicle. DIY doesn't mean much.

The New Jubilee Mano Kit supports the maximum speed ratio selection of 3x 10, that is, 30 speeds. There are 2x 10 and traditional 3x9 systems, and the choice of speed ratio is not discussed here, but depends entirely on the actual needs of individuals. DEORE kit (tooth plate, flywheel, front dial, back dial, finger dial) 1.300 yuan, about 2,000 yuan, about XT M780 yuan, about XT M780 yuan (all new DEORE M590, SLX M660, XT M780, XTR M980). The price ratio of the kit is about 1/3 of the whole vehicle, which should be consistent with other parts. When choosing a speed change kit, try not to mix two or more parts with different grades. For example, all components are made of DEORE, XTR is suddenly installed after dialing, or XT suite is made up with ALIVIO's pre-dialing, which will make the higher-level suite not play the most perfect role and may cause compatibility problems (the same is true for SRAM).

Why didn't I mention the chain? Because I personally think that if you use Shimano SLX or above, then a top-class Shimano 770 1 chain (compatible with 9-segment flywheel, if the flywheel is of other segments, you can buy a chain of the same level and the same number) (bulk parallel imports only need 100 yuan) is a very good choice, and the transmission and speed change effects are very comfortable. Of course, if the budget is not enough, then use the original grade chain.

The Sram suite in the United States is also divided into several levels. It is suggested that DIY choose X5, X7, X9 and X0 from low to high, which correspond to DEORE, SLX, XT and XTR of Shimano respectively (X5 is more expensive than DEORE). The specific collocation method is the same as Shimano, so don't surpass each other and mix and match different brands.

As for the difference between Sram and Shimano's gear shifting system, the main difference is that Sram's finger shifting is pushing up (both gears are pushed up with thumb), while Shimano's finger shifting is scissors (the index finger and thumb control the finger shifting, and the front and rear direction is determined by the backward forward/backward pulling mode). Personally, I prefer Shimano's scissors shift mode, which has a faster response, while Sram finger shift can leave food fingers on the brake handle.

In terms of design style and materials, Shimano has a strong sense of machinery (new products in recent years are also streamlined), and Sram has a sense of streamline. Shimano is mostly made of aluminum alloy with few carbon fibers (only mass-produced after XTR's previous generation M972). If you want to experience products made of carbon fiber, the use of a large number of carbon fibers in Sram X0 suite can meet your needs. Of course, XTR of Shimano and X0 of Sram belong to professional competitive level kits, and their prices are much higher than the previous levels (XT and X9). The budget of parts using these two kits must be sufficient, and other parts in the car should also meet their level.

Note: Do not mix and match any part of Shimano and Sram. Although the latest 10 segment suite test is compatible, it is still not recommended to mix and match during DIY!

If there is a video, you should have both Youku and Tudou. You can look carefully.

I hope my answer can help you.
