Understanding of modern poetry

New poetry is a free-style new poem written in vernacular Chinese, which corresponds to the old-style poems and metrical poems in ancient China. It does not require even and flat meter and rhyme, and there is no limit to the number of words in each sentence. New poetry is usually called modern poetry. 1953 began to use the name of modern poetry, named after the "Modern Poetry Society" founded by Ji Xian. According to custom, we also call new poetry modern poetry here. Modern poetry, also known as "vernacular poetry", is a kind of poetry. Compared with classical poetry, it is generally not restricted by format and rhythm. The main schools of modern poetry are Crescent School, kuya School and Misty School.

Last class, we talked about what new poetry is, its characteristics, course and genre. In this lecture, we mainly understand the emergence, development and significance of new poetry, that is, modern poetry. Several problems in modern poetry: the definition standard of modern poetry; Value judgment of modern poetry; Among them, the definition standard of modern poetry is the main content of this lecture.

First, the emergence, development and significance of modern poetry

As we all know, China is an ancient country. In the evolution of human civilization for thousands of years, we are also a country of poetry, and Tang poetry is also a bright pearl in the history of human poetry. History is developing, society is developing, and so is poetry. However, the development of poetry in modern times is difficult and can't meet the needs of social progress.

1At the end of the 9th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Liang Qichao, Tan Sitong and others called for a "revolution in poetry". 19 15 September15 Chen Duxiu founded Youth magazine, which opposed feudal autocracy, publicized progressive ideas, and respected democracy and science, thus setting off the prelude to the modern new culture movement in China.

In this new culture movement, advanced intellectuals in China put forward to replace classical Chinese with vernacular Chinese, and to replace old poems with new ones. Famous literati such as Hu Shi, Guo Moruo, Xu Zhimo, Lu Xun, Zhu Ziqing and Bing Xin all actively participated in the creation of new poems, especially Xu Zhimo's new poems have far-reaching influence. After Xu, the poetry collections of Xi Murong, Wang Guozhen and Luo Pai also swept the country with sales of 654.38+10,000 copies.

With the development of Internet, more and more people in our modern society devote themselves to the creation and dissemination of modern poetry, such as our online poetry club. Modern poetry, as a product of the New Culture Movement, has played a positive role in opposing feudal autocracy and enlightening the democratic thoughts of a generation of young people, although its artistic achievements and influence have not yet reached the height of old-style poetry. During and after the Cultural Revolution, modern poetry also played a certain role in ideological enlightenment and promoted the progress and development of poetry to a certain extent. However, there are many problems in the development of modern poetry.

Second, the main problems of modern poetry

Because there are many schools of modern poetry, and each school also has its excellent works, it is difficult for theoretical circles to establish a unified standard for modern poetry. In addition, the form of modern poetry is completely free and unconstrained, and there is no threshold at all. People of any cultural level can hang the name of modern poetry as long as they write a few words casually and then branch. So the development of modern poetry has reached today's chaotic situation, almost to the point where there is no way out.

So, why is this happening? The main reason is that there are problems in mainstream creation, and a large number of so-called poems are not popular with readers.

In fact, it is not that there are no modern poets in China, but that the works of modern poets have no readers at all.

The emergence of obscure poems in the 1970s has its specific historical background, because according to the value standards of that year, these poems are antisocial and deliberately obscure in order to save the author himself. Obscure poetry used to be all the rage and influenced many people who wrote poems. Since then, many poets blindly imitate this hazy external form, and what's more, they think that only in this way can they show their profound level. Now the development of obscure poetry is almost obscure. Ill sentences and coinage can be found everywhere in poetry. The appearance of this obscure poem naturally damages the image of modern poetry and confuses readers. I will talk about some problems in poetry creation, such as sick sentences, word-making, obscurity, etc., which will be mentioned one by one in future handouts.

Imitation of translated poems is also common in China's modern poems. These poems are also difficult for readers to accept. The birth of modern poetry itself stems from the transplantation of foreign poetry, rather than the inheritance of China's excellent poetry. In fact, many works of foreign poetry schools can be found in China's The Book of Songs and Songs of the South, but excellent foreign poems will be out of shape once they are translated. The artistic effect of poetry in any language is based on its specific culture. Translation can only translate its general idea, but not its artistic height and the beauty of phonology and rhythm. On the other hand, we can understand this better. Whether it is China's classical poetry or modern poetry, it is the same as long as it is translated into a foreign language. Foreign readers simply can't tell which works are translated from China's ancient poems or words. Which work was translated from China's modern poems? The difference between China's classical poetry and modern poetry is obvious, and their artistic effects and styles are also quite different. After Li Bai's widely circulated and easy-to-understand Silent Night Thought is translated into English, no matter which translation you look at, you can't understand the artistic conception of the original poem. Many English versions give me the impression that they are prose, not poetry at all. Ironically, however, many modern poets are still blindly imitating the writing style of translated poems. In fact, they didn't learn the writing style of a famous foreign poet, but just learned to write poems from translators seriously.

What's more, in recent years, some people with low character have resorted to unscrupulous means in pursuit of personal fame and fortune. There are a lot of rubbish poems with shit as the theme, a lot of obscene lower body poems and a lot of ode poems. These works often arouse readers' antipathy and seriously damage the image of poetry.

For a time, poetic pear-shaped works flooded the poetry world. In fact, this is also a satire on modern poetry. There is also a lamb body work that won the grand prize, which is a great regret in the poetry circle.
