Residents of Princesa Underground River National Park
St. Paul's Cave was known in ancient times to the locals, who believed that it was inhabited by elves and did not allow them to enter the cave. The park and its surrounding lands were the ancestral territory of the Batak people. Around it live the Tagobanua people, who, unlike the Bataks, have generally adapted to the Christian culture.
The only inhabitants living in the core area of the park are park employees, who supplement their livelihoods in the park's periphery by cutting cane, shell cedar, and clearing makeshift land. There are also residents living in the buffer zone of the reserve, but little is known about them.
