Is it better to start with the European style or the Yan style to solve the problem of beginners' calligraphy? Why?
I started with Liu Ti, and then I studied European style for a while. In contrast, I think it is better to start with the face shape.
When I was studying calligraphy, Liu Ti was popular. I chose Liu Gu. At that time, the feeling was that Liu Tigang was strong, with silver hooks and iron paintings, thin and hard, clear and slippery, and rigorous brushwork. After studying for more than a year, I feel very rigid, monotonous and boring, and my brushwork is rigorous and gradually tied. It is very difficult to leave my post and transfer to another organization. Later, Mr. Li from the cultural center gave me an idea to give up and transfer to Laoyan. Teacher Li said that among all the people, Yan is the first and most pioneering, and he is easy to use brushwork and easy to get in and out. The most striking feeling for me is that I am broad-minded, open-minded, round and not so restrained. I can read my thoughts directly and easily transfer them to other copybooks. I think the teacher is right. Yan Ti is a post, not to mention Yan Ti has a second-class script in the world, such as "Sacrificing a Nephew", which shows that learning Yan is a good choice. Many calligraphers, such as He, Weng Tonghe and Qian Nanyuan, were born from Yan Ti in all previous dynasties, especially in Qing Dynasty, which fully proved that it was easier to succeed from Yan Ti.
Among the four schools, I feel that Europe is similar to Liu recently, and the sense of bondage is also very strong. I think I have benefited a lot since I learned to draw my own body at the end of my studies.
