Tap water in the United States is filtered, because they prefer to drink cold water, and that water has reached the standard of direct drinking, so there is no need to boil it before drinking.

So they don't usually buy electric kettles, but they always have microwave ovens at home. When they really need to drink hot water, they will choose to put it directly in a cup and then heat it in a microwave oven. Or cook directly in a pot when cooking.

There is also the material problem of electric kettle, because many electric kettles are stainless steel, so Americans dare not use them. They think that manganese will precipitate during heating and lead to heavy metal poisoning, so they don't like to use stainless steel tableware and electrical appliances.

But in fact, when boiling water with stainless steel electric kettle, manganese oxide will be precipitated, but the content of manganese precipitated is very small, which will not cause serious harm to human body. And some materials are safer stainless steel, which does not contain manganese, so don't be afraid when heating. But if it is because of greed and cheap to buy those inferior ones, it is hard to say.
