Does Taekwondo originate in Japan or Korea?
Taekwondo is an ancient folk martial art in East Asia, especially in the Korean Peninsula. It is a traditional Korean sport, which uses hand and foot techniques to fight. It consists of three parts: quality (gloves), fighting and skill test. Taekwondo is a unique martial art that is innovatively developed on the basis of introducing and absorbing China traditional martial arts and Japanese karate. It has high practical value of self-defense and physical fitness.
1945 After the independence of North Korea, the self-defense skills of North Korea re-emerged, and Koreans who left overseas because of the war also brought back their own martial arts from all over the country, which were integrated with Taekwondo, thus forming a modern Taekwondo system.
1955, the Taekwondo leader finally called North Korea's self-defense taekwondo. Taekwondo (TA) means kicking with your feet; KWON means to fight with boxing; DO refers to the method of using both hands and feet, and also refers to practice.
1961September, North Korea established the Tang Shoudao Association (later renamed the Taekwondo Association).
1962 Taekwondo was accepted as a member of Korea Amateur Sports Association and was listed as an official event of the National Games for the first time.
1966, the first international organization, the International Taekwondo Federation (I T F), was established with Cui Hongxi as its chairman.
1972 moved to Toronto, Canada for various reasons.
1973 In May, the World Taekwondo Federation (W T F) was established in Seoul, and Jin Yuncheng was elected as its chairman. At that time, more than 20 countries from all continents joined the organization.
1975 The World Taekwondo Federation was accepted as a member of the International Sports Federation.
1980 The International Olympic Committee officially recognized the World Taekwondo Federation.
1986 A Korean Taekwondo delegation led by Mr. Cui Hongxi, founder of Taekwondo, came to China for a visit and performance. And this year, this sport is listed as the event of the 10 Asian Games.
1987 Taekwondo was included in the official events of Pan-American Games, All-Africa Games and East Asian Games.
1988 The 24th Olympic Games kicked off in Seoul, South Korea, and the host country made unremitting efforts to make Taekwondo a performance event in the 24th, 25th and 26th Olympic Games. It provides the greatest opportunity and motivation for the rapid development of Taekwondo.
1994 At the 3rd meeting of the International Olympic Committee held in Paris, France, it was decided that Taekwondo should be included in the official competition of the 2000 Olympic Games. Similarly, Taekwondo is an official event in a series of international sports competitions, such as the World Universiade, goodwill games, Southeast Asia Games, South America Games, South Pacific Games and Military World Games.
