Five very strange animals
1, ancient saber-toothed tiger
Many cats have been found in the frozen environment, some of which have a history of thousands of years, and some are even older. In the second half of last year, the news media all over the world reported the discovery of cats during the Ice Age. This is the skull of a cat found in Yukon, Canada. The 50,000-year-old skull in the frozen soil is so well preserved that scientists can even extract its DNA samples. They named it saber-toothed tiger, which belongs to a variant of saber-toothed tiger. At present, there is little research on it. Further genetic analysis shows that this powerful animal has extremely good eyesight and will hunt and chase prey during the day. They may live in smaller groups and are more socialized than modern tigers, cheetahs and bobcats.
2. Two elk are fighting.
A man named Brad Webster and his friends were hunting in Alaska when they found two partially frozen areas. As they approached, they found two male elk frozen in the swamp and their antlers intertwined. As for what happened to them, the popular view is that the two elk were fighting for territorial disputes or mating rights. As a result, one of their necks was broken or lost consciousness, and their antlers got entangled, so that they fell into the swamp together and finally died there, frozen stiff. They later took the two elk out of the ice and brought their heads back to town as souvenirs.
3. Infectious virus
For thousands of years, infectious virus has been a terrible thing that human beings have been fighting. Frozen and cold places are the best environment to preserve them. A teacher who took part in an expedition to the Arctic Circle came into close contact with pathogens, which posed a very real threat to his health. The man named Zach Peterson is helping archaeologists dig an 800-year-old hut that stands in the Arctic Circle on the north coast of Alaska. At the end of the trip, he began to notice a red spot on his leg. At first it was only the size of a dime, but a few days later, it became the size of a softball.
Peterson realized that he had a rapidly spreading skin infection, and all this was related to his contact with creatures in the frozen soil. At that time, the team found frozen seals left by hunters in the past. These animals began to melt and decompose, and their organs oozed from their bodies and began to rot. The whole area smells like rotten tuna sandwiches. During this process, Peterson was treated for finger infection, and an 800-year-old pathogen in frozen soil once entered his body, eventually causing harm to his body. In fact, many people worry that frozen ancient humans and animals will suffer from a lot of diseases. They are so well preserved in frozen soil that when they are thawed, infectious viruses on them may come to human society.
4. Antarctic dinosaurs
Paleontologists working on a mountain in Antarctica have discovered what they call an ice fossil, which actually contains a huge, previously unknown dinosaur remains. This is a sauropod dinosaur, the largest animal on land at that time. The dinosaur fossils found are estimated to be 7 meters long and have a long neck. It is a herbivore who lived in the early Jurassic.
5. Prehistoric cubs
In the Canadian Yukon, gold digger Neil lovelace found something unusual there. When he blasted the permanent soil with a water cannon, he found a well-preserved prehistoric wolf cub. He soon realized its potential scientific value, took immediate action, put it in the refrigerator and contacted paleontologists to wait for their arrival. After research, it shows that this is a little female wolf. She died about 57,000 years ago when she was only seven weeks old. It is said to be the oldest and most complete wolf mummy ever. The analysis of its DNA shows that it comes from a group of traditionally different wolves, and there is no such wolf in this area. Interestingly, scientists found that the last meal of the cubs turned out to be fish, which was far from their expectations.
