Liu Baorui

Liu Baorui (1915 - October 6, 1968 ?) ), a native of Beijing, is a sixth-generation Chinese comedian who studied under Zhang Shoushen.

Liu Bao-rui's comic works draw on and absorb the advantages of sister arts such as monologue, commentary, film and drama, and boldly innovate and create, forming a unique artistic style that combines voice, appearance, emotion and spirit. He was especially famous for his monologue, and was known as the "King of Monologue".

Liu Baorui has made important contributions to the creation of new comedy, the excavation and organization of traditional comedy, and the development and improvement of the performing art of stand-up comedy.

Early life

Liu Baorui was born in Beijing in 1915, his real name is Liu Mingguang. He was born in Beijing in 1915, and his real name was Liu Mingguang. Since childhood, his family was poor, and he began to contact the art of comedy at the age of nine, often traveling between the Beijing Tianqiao and Dong'an Market comedy venues, and once followed Chong Shoufeng to learn the art. At the age of thirteen, he formally studied with Zhang Shoushen (who gave him the stage name Liu Litang), and began to learn the art of crosstalk. At the age of fourteen, he went to Tianjin, where he performed with Ma Sanli, Zhao Peiru and Li Jieduan at the Nanshi Lianxing Tea House, and often went on the air at the radio station, where he made his debut.

In 1932, 17-year-old Liu Baorui and 18-year-old Ma Sanli partnered up and went to Yingkou, Yantai, Qingdao and other places to "run the docks" and perform comedy. On the ship from Yingkou to Yantai, due to penniless, two days without food, Liu Baorui starved, Ma Sanli had no choice but to steal two baklava, which saved Liu Baorui's life. From then on, Liu Baorui and Ma Sanli formed a very deep friendship
