Listen to grandparents telling liberation stories.
-Listen to veteran Dong reminiscing about revolutionary life.
Introduction: I have often listened to my grandmother's past stories since I was a child, and I have also heard such unforgettable revolutionary stories with my own eyes after I went to college. On this day, accompanied by the fragrant drizzle of Dragon Boat Festival, I went to Xiaonanmen Veterans' Home in Lanzhou Military Region with the school writing group to interview veterans. After presenting several small programs, our interview officially began. My interviewee is 87-year-old grandfather Dong, former deputy political commissar of Ankang Military Region. Grandpa Dong 1938 joined the army, participated in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the War of Liberation and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and was awarded the Medal of Independence and Freedom, the Third Class Medal of Liberation and the Medal of Independence and Honor. At the beginning of the interview, the old man talked about the battles he had participated in with great interest. It's an interview, but it's more like listening to grandpa tell that story. I recorded these stories and shared them with you.
The greatest soldier in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression
Grandpa Dong's home is in Hebei. Because my father has done business, his family life is fairly comfortable and he has the ability to learn. When he was in junior high school in Baoding, his academic performance was excellent, especially in mathematics. At that time, the school stipulated that students with math scores above 90 should be sent to high school for science. Grandpa Dong became one of the only three lucky students in the school with 93.5 points. However, just as they entered the high school gate with joy, "the Japanese devils paid their tuition and came without class for a day." 18 years old, was recruited into the Anti-Japanese War College and began his military career. But when it comes to learning, Grandpa Dong is still full of pride: "Because of his high level of education, he became a cultural officer as soon as he arrived in the army and taught soldiers to learn culture. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, I worked as the director of calculation at Jiuquan Base, and my math skills came in handy. " It is no exaggeration to say that grandpa is a talented student. However, in the era when the invaders invaded our country, in the vast China, a stable desk could not be put down. Reading and going to school, these things that seem normal to us, are grandpa's unfulfilled wishes.
The most unforgettable memory
Grandpa Dong has experienced numerous wars, big and small. He talked about Hundred Regiments Battle, Shangdang Campaign, Pinghan Campaign, Huaihai Campaign and crossing the river until the liberation of Jinan, Chongqing and Chengdu. Although he is old, his mind is still clear, even remembering the year, place and army number of the war very clearly. After fighting for half a lifetime, all the joys and sorrows have been dissolved into the memory of these battles. My grandfather's answer to my questions is always about the war.
The most unforgettable experience-War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression
1942 was the most difficult period of the Anti-Japanese War. The drought for three consecutive years has put life in the base area in trouble. Everyone only eats four or two grains of food every day. When you are hungry, cook wild vegetables into porridge to satisfy your hunger. "Life is hard and war is more cruel." The Japanese army swept the Taihang Mountains, and Grandpa Dong's battalion followed the headquarters and took on the task of covering the headquarters. A breakthrough, the enemy swept our army from four counties, and four or five enemy planes bombed and strafed continuously. Critical juncture, Zuo Quan's chief of staff personally command headquarters to retreat. Grandpa Dong passed by Zuo Quan's chief of staff, and Zuo Quan's chief of staff also instructed him to run to a safe place. Just after running 100 meters, the enemy's shell hit the left chief of staff. "I saw with my own eyes that General Zuo Quan died in the back mountain of Yamenkou, Liao County, Shanxi Province." Speaking of this, the old man's eyes are red and his voice is trembling. He paused, calmed down, and then said, "There are still 200 meters from the encirclement, but General Zuo has not left." I asked my grandfather, "Are you afraid?" "Not afraid!" The voice is firm and powerful. "When we started fighting, we were not afraid. We should concentrate on dealing with the enemy, especially when our morale is high after winning the battle. " I can still see grandpa's expression when he speaks. He let me see the firm belief and iron character of the soldiers.
Proudest battle-the War of Liberation
The war of liberation went smoothly. First, Yen Hsi-shan's main force was wiped out in Shangdang Campaign, and then Chiang Kai-shek's elite troops were defeated on Pinghan Road. In order to support Li Xiannian's troops, he went out to Longhai for three times, liberated most counties and cities along the Longhai Line, and then advanced into Dabie Mountain. The successive victories of our army forced the enemy to surrender and retreat. When it comes to winning the battle, Grandpa Dong is in high spirits and clenches his fist from time to time.
What makes the old soldier most proud is that he participated in the Huaihai Campaign. The Huaihai Campaign was the largest, most enemy-wiped and most influential of the three major campaigns. The battle was commanded, and the Second Field Army led by Liu and Deng joined forces with the Third Field Army led by Chen Yi and Su Yu to attack the enemy. The whole campaign lasted more than three months, and our army defeated the Kuomintang army of 800 thousand with 600 thousand people. "The enemy has aircraft cover, superior weapons and modern equipment. When we were founded, we used local guns and cannons, as well as spears, guns and broadswords. The fundamental reason why we were able to win was Chairman Mao's command of "fight if you win, and run if you don't win". Look for opportunities, drill loopholes and use terrain to ambush'; Ping-Guan Ping's victory was won by ambush. When we raid at night, the enemy bombers will not be able to play a role. " Speaking of the enemies besieging Xuzhou, Grandpa Dong excitedly gestured with his hand and laughed from time to time. From his expression, I can't see the cruelty of war, but my heart is full of joy of victory, and my war-torn face is full of smug smiles.
The happiest memory-celebration
In the hard war years, the happiest thing for soldiers is to take part in every battle and win a series of battles in succession. Grandpa told me that every time he won a battle, he would hold a commendation meeting to commend the warriors who had outstanding performance in the battle. Celebration was the happiest thing for the soldiers at that time.
At my request, Grandpa Dong also sang the revolutionary song "Revolutionary soldiers should keep in mind everywhere, three disciplines and eight points for attention ..." "Folks, folks, go to the battlefield quickly ...". I can't remember the lyrics clearly. Let me help them. We sang and chatted, helping grandpa relive the happy time.
The most regrettable tears-the sacrifice of comrades-in-arms
Grandpa Dong's best comrades-in-arms all died in the battle. "It's easier said than done, but it's harder to fight." In the process of telling the story, the old man recited this sentence repeatedly. "War has no front and rear, and enemy planes are bombing everywhere. War requires sacrifice. I've been in the office for a long time, so I don't have much chance to fight the enemy. My comrades-in-arms died. " Grandpa's comrades-in-arms won the victory for us, but failed to see the victory, which became the biggest regret of grandpa's life.
The happiest memory-dedication to national defense
After the founding of New China, Grandpa Dong took part in the battle to liberate the southwest, fought in Korea for a year, and returned home victorious to resist US aggression and aid Korea. In peacetime, the old revolution accepted a new task-building Jiuquan satellite base. Jiuquan is located in Gobi, a wasteland in the north of Qilian Mountain. There is no human habitation in Fiona Fang, where sandstorms are raging and the climate is extremely bad. Living conditions are even worse. When the troops first arrived there, the barracks were not built yet, so they had to live in tents and drink all the salt water. It was not until later that a well was drilled underground at 1000 meters that the drinking water problem was solved. Grandpa Dong and other army leaders led hundreds of newly enlisted high school students to fight against the harsh environment while carrying out base construction and scientific experiments. There are no modern computing tools, but hand-cranked electronic computers are used. They conducted missile and atomic bomb tests, analyzed drawings and loaded warheads, and successfully launched Dongfeng 1 and Dongfeng-2 satellites. Grandpa Dong's army has won many awards such as "Five Good Companies" and "Five Good Benefits". In that era far away from gunfire and smoke, in the depths of the desert in the northwest of the motherland, our veterans continued to make silent contributions to the national defense cause of the motherland with their wisdom and hard work.
Postscript: Now, Grandpa Dong has retired for many years. On weekdays, he walks around and plays chess and cards with veteran cadres. During the war, he traveled all over China, but because of the inconvenience of his legs and feet, the old man wanted to visit Tibet and Heilongjiang. Looking back on this life, Grandpa Dong felt that he had "made some contributions to the country, and his heart was quite practical". Grandpa smiled and shook his head when I used words like "sublime" and "great" to describe their old revolution. For us young people, he wants us to "serve the society well". He said: "You are engaged in literature and art, so you must develop cultural undertakings. One is material and the other is culture. You should enrich people's lives, bring fun to people, and use your songs to bring good influence and awaken people! "
"We can only talk about the war in general, but it will take a lot of time to talk about it in detail." It's really an understatement to tell the story of 80 years and the revolutionary life in two hours, but I have gained a lot. The old man's story is very organized. In order not to interrupt his thinking, I try to ask fewer questions. Just listen quietly and then write down the important content. See grandpa is tired, bring him tea and let him rest. During the two-hour interview, my thoughts followed my grandfather's story, from the devastated old China to a new era of impermanence, from the battle scenes of bullets to the national defense construction in peacetime. Grandpa Dong's story condenses the touching deeds of a generation of veterans who are loyal to the country, and also reflects the trajectory of the historical wheel all the way forward. When they were young, they gave their lives to meet the peaceful liberation; After the victory, they went to the place where the motherland and the people needed it most without asking for credit or return. After retirement, their bodies are idle, but their hearts are always attached to the national economy and people's livelihood. Their life has been devoted to the revolution and construction in China, which has brought down the whole country and nation.
I have seen such stories in books and on the screen countless times, but when you look at these weather-beaten faces so closely for the first time, look at their faltering steps and rickety backs. You really see the living history, feel the lofty soul and understand the meaning of life. All the sacred and beautiful words in my heart can't be clearly described, and no matter how beautiful the melody is, it can't express my respect. That really touched the heart. Grandpa, let me give you a deep bow.
